BOOK TAG: I Dare You!

Dear book-lovers,

So I actually like doing book tag posts, but I have been so bad at it 🤦‍♀️ as this is actually my first book tag’s post here 🙈 So couple of years ago (I know, I know, I’m not only bad, I’m terrible) I was tagged by lovely Annemieke @ A Dance with Books for I Dare You book tag. You can read her post of I Dare You tag here. I have no idea who originally  came up with this tag.

I promise that I’ll do better with tags in the future 😊 But now let’s just dive into the questions for this book tag.

I Dare You Book Tag

1. What Book has been on your shelves the longest?

Hmm, no idea. I actually have some of my childhood’s books here with me, so they are books that I own the longest time. I have four children’s books that I loved as a child and still do. All four of them are in Latvian as those time it was the only language I could read or speak. *Note. Click on the book cover and it will take you to its Goodreads page.

2. What is your current read, your last read, and the book you will read next?

Current read: I’m taking part in three week behind the book readalong organized by the author on IG for a YA fantasy – SKY in the Deep by Adrienne Young. (It’s week 2 now, and this week we are reading chapters 16-31). I enjoy this book even more than the first time, when I read it last year.

Last read: Last night I read an ARC, so I could write its release blitz post with review for a dark romance – Owned by Him by Raven Amor. I loved it and you can check out my review tomorrow.

Next book: Tonight I have to read an ARC for one more release blitz post with review for a hate-to-love paranormal fantasy romance – Awful Curse (Celestial Bodies #1) by Elena Monroe. Hopefully I’ll love it as blurb sounded interesting, but you can find that out tomorrow in my review.

3. What book did everyone like, but you hated?

Many people loved The Princess Saves Herself in This One by Amanda Lovelace, The Witch Doesn’t Burn in This One by Amanda Lovelace and Milk Honey by Rupi Kaur and Love Her Wild by Atticus Poetry, but I didn’t like these poetry books. Also I wasn’t a fan of YA contemporary romance Anna and the French Kiss trilogy by Stephanie Perkins. I actually DNFed YA fantasy romance Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige and Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater, which was very disappointing as I expected to love them as the rest of bookish world. So these are the books of my unpopular opinion.

4. What book do you keep telling yourself you’ll read, but you probably won’t?

It’s a good question that I don’t have an answer to. Maybe most of the numerous classics that I want to read, but possibly will not have time to get to as I enjoy modern literature way too much.

5. Which book are you saving for retirement?

Hmmm, I’m not thinking about retirement yet, so at the moment I’m not really saving books for this reason.

6. Last page: Do you read it first or wait to the end?

I read books from the beginning to the end, not the other way around 😉

7. Acknowledgements: Are they a waste of paper and ink or interesting?

I have read many acknowledgements, some of them were quite interesting.

8. Which book character would you switch places with?

Not sure, but I would like to live in a world with magic and have magical powers, so any fantasy book’s world without tyrant rulers will do.

9. Do you have a book that reminds you of something specific in your life?

I’m sorry, but why are these questions so hard to answer 🙈 I need to think about this one. I’ll have to choose The Host by Stephenie Meyer, as I have very special memory of the reading process, so it reminds me of this specific moment in my life. Does it count?

10. Name a book that you acquired in an interesting way.

I would enjoy you telling a story of how I fought a dragon to get my hands on a magical book, but sadly, I don’t have such tales, also I’m not sure I could actually win a fight with a fire breathing dragon.

There are no interesting stories for me. However the best ways I have gotten books are by winning in an author organized giveaways. I won two paper backs in one giveaway from Olivia Wildenstein – A Pack of Blood and Lies, and Rose Petal Graves. Then an eARC from Mimi Matthews – The Winter Companion, and an audio book from R.S. Grey – His Royal Highness. Believe me I was super excited for each one of them, because all three of these ladies are on my list of favourite authors.

11. Have you ever given away a book for a special reason to a special person?

I don’t believe I have given away any of my books for special reasons. If I have, I don’t remember it.

12. Which book has been with you the most places?

I actually try not to carry books with me because I don’t want to damage them, also I have a Kindle app on my phone, which is perfect for traveling as all my eBooks come where ever I go.

13. Any ‘required reading’ you hated in high school that wasn’t so bad two years later?

Oh, high-school was so long time ago that I don’t really remember books that we had to read, but we didn’t really have the famous classics on that list. There were mostly books written by Latvian authors, however, I can’t say that I liked any of them then or now.

14. Used or brand new?

I love brand new books.

15. Have you ever read a Dan Brown book?

Yes, I own four, but I have read two at the moment.

16. Have you ever seen a movie that you liked more than the book?

Yes. Just recently I read The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien, I liked it, but I loved, loved the movies. So, yes, movie was better.

17. A book that’s made you hungry?

I don’t remember any book making me hungry. It’s not that easy to do so, also if the protagonist is obsessed with food (every second thought is about food, on every second page there is eating scene) then that will annoy the living hell out of me. However, a good description of cakes or other backed goods could make me want to crawl inside the book to get that delicious pastry.

19. Most read authors?

Jennifer L. Armentrout – 24 books, R.S. Grey – 18 books, duo of L.J. Beck and Cassandra Hallman – 15 books, Lauren Layne – 13 books, Penelope Douglas – 12 books, Richelle Mead – 12 books.

Sadly, I have only read 6 books from my favourite author Mary E. Pearson, but I’ll try to read some more sooner or later, as this year I’m planning to reread all 6 books.
