Bookish memes on Friday – February 28, 2020 (features ‘The Lost Prince’ by Julie Kagawa)

Dear book-lovers,

It’s Friday and time for a Friday memes of Book Beginnings on Fridays hosted @ Rose City ReaderFirst Lines Fridays @ Wandering WordsThe Friday 56 hosted @Freda’s Voice. So the idea for this post is to share with you a few first lines from a book that I have decided to feature today, and to share a snippet from page 56 or in case of eBook a sneak peek 56% into the book. Let’s not keep you waiting and look at today’s featured book.

I kind of struggled to chose book for this week’s Friday meme because I felt like I wanted to save the planned books I want to feature here for other weeks.  At the end I went for the series that I have been reading trough for the past couple of month. I have finished three books and can’t wait to get to the last one, but at first I have bunch of ARCs to finish, before that can happen. So here you go, book of the week – The Lost Prince (The Iron Fey: Call of the Forgotten #1) by Julie Kagawa.

The first lines of the book

My name is Ethan Chase.

And I doubt I’ll live to see my eighteenth birthday.

That’s not me being dramatic; it just is. I just wish I hadn’t pulled so many people into this mess. They shouldn’t have to suffer because of me. Especially…her. God, if I could take back anything in my life, I would never have shown her my world, the hidden world all around us. I knew better than to let her in. Once you see Them, they’ll never leave you alone. They’ll never let you go. Maybe if I’d been strong, she wouldn’t be here with me as our seconds tick away, waiting to die.

It all started the day I transferred to a new school. Again.

I actually love this beginning. It really intrigued me and made me want to know what the heck is happening and why.

Chapter four

“Forget it.” I glared at him, and his ears wilted. “What happens if I give you all my secrets? You would just use it to further your stupid tricks. I’m not revealing everything just to have it bite my ass later.” His ears dropped even more, and I crossed my arms. “Besides, what about your little friends? The wards I know are for all fey, not just a selected few. What happens to them?”

“We can get around that,” Tod said quickly. “We’ll make it work, somehow. Ethan, please. I’m desperate, here. What do you want from me?”

It sounds like Ethan has attitude and some snark in him, which could get him in trouble sometimes. Looks like he has his secrets and some power to protect himself from fey, but the first lines of the book makes me think that it may not be enough. And we can clearly see his dislike of fey. I’m sure his story will be interesting.

Synopsis

Don’t look at Them.
Never let Them know
you can see Them.

That is Ethan Chase’s unbreakable rule. Until the fey he avoids at all costs—including his reputation—begin to disappear, and Ethan is attacked. Now he must change the rules to protect his family. To save a girl he never thought he’d dare to fall for.

Ethan thought he had protected himself from his older sister’s world—the land of Faery. His previous time in the Iron Realm left him with nothing but fear and disgust for the world Meghan Chase has made her home, a land of myth and talking cats, of magic and seductive enemies. But when destiny comes for Ethan, there is no escape from a danger long, long forgotten.

My name is Ethan Chase.
And I may not live to see my
eighteenth birthday.

Thanks for stopping by! This was an interesting story full off adventure, action, friendship and love. I actually like this spin-off series more than the original Iron Fey series about Ethan’s sister Megan Chase. And I just noticed that there is a new spin-off series and first book is coming in 2021. It looks like it could be about Puck, but I actually just want more of Keirran. No matter, I’m thrilled. How about you? Now I’m so glad I chose to feature this book because it led me to this wonderful discovery 🙂

Have you read Iron Fey series or the spin-off series? What were your thoughts? Do you enjoy reading books about fey?

Happy reading,
Lady of Bookland

  1. The only thing I’ve read by Julie Kagawa is the Shadow of the Fox series, and I’ve been meaning to pick up more from her for a while now.

Oh my gosh, that beginning is FABULOUS. It definitely makes me want to read more! I think I’ll have to check this one out! Thanks for sharing.

    Here’s my Friday post.
