My Thoughts

I love my family, but I don’t really fit in. They’re like butterflies flitting from flower to flower. I’m a caterpillar who decided she loved her cocoon more than wings.

The first part of this book includes the free prologue novella Hidden Gem. It was a cute and a bit heartbreaking start to Holly and Elijah’s romance story. In the novella we get to meet Holly, her family and Elijah and see how Holly meets Elijah for the first time in Paris from her POV.

“You should know better than to talk to someone like me. And most of all, you shouldn’t trust me.”

There is a dual POV in the rest of the book, when eight years later Diamond in the Rough starts with Holly’s kidnapping and that should be all you know when diving into this dark read, to keep the suspense and a bit of mystery to it.

I taste Holly. My mind remembers her as clearly as it does the dark chocolate eclair. Forbidden temptation. Indulgence. Regret.

The beginning of Holly and Elijah’s romance is kind of sweet but with some rough edges, however, with time it turns a bit darker and more twisted as Elijah is a complicated, possessive and a tad bit broken man.

How dare he touch her? She’s my angel of death. Mine.

I shake my head against the cold concrete. No, that’s the blood loss speaking. She’s a real woman. Flesh and blood. And she’s going to get hurt.

The story had a good pace, it was entertaining, exhilarating and  heartbreaking with some suspense, steam and intrigue. This is not your usual captive romance and a ride you will want to take with all the feels.

I saw you. I wanted you. And I take what I want. It doesn’t have to be more complicated than that, Holly. I said those words to her once, but they were just fantasy then.

The ending was a bit of a cliffhanger and now I just can’t wait for the next book to see more of their love story, which is not all flowers and hearts…

“I’m not leaving you behind. Ask me to do anything else. I’d lie down and die with you before I’d walk away.”
