Friday Face Off meme and Book Blogger Hop – April 24, 2020

Dear book-lovers,

It’s time for Friday Face Off. This meme was created by Books by Proxy and now is hosted by Lynn’s Books. Now let’s take a look at the rules: This is a great opportunity to feature some of your favourite book covers. Each week, following a predetermined theme (list below) choose a book (this doesn’t have to be a book that you’ve read), compare a couple of the different covers available for that particular book and choose your favourite one out of them. Keep in mind that the themes are open to interpretation, so just enjoy yourself. This week’s theme:

Armour – ‘“Pretty armour doesn’t make a warrior.”

I decided to go with one of my favourite book covers for this week with a New Adult Paranormal Dystopian Romance series with standalone romances by Laura Thalassa – Pestilence (The Four Horsemen #1), War (The Four Horsemen #2) and Famine (The Four Horsemen #3). Sadly the last book in the series – Death (The Four Horsemen #4) doesn’t have cover yet, but I’m sure it’s going to be the same gorgeous as the rest of them 😉

Pestilence (#1) First US cover / Second US cover / Pestilence (#1) French cover

pestilence   pestilence 1   pestilence 3

Pestilence (#1) Polish cover / War (#2) US cover / War (#2) French cover

pestilence 2  war  war 1

Famine (#3) US cover

I think all of these covers are gorgeous, but two years ago my heart was stolen by the very first cover of this book series and it still belongs to that book, so the winner of this Friday Face Off and my favourite cover is:

Which one of these seven covers do you like the best?

Next week’s (1st May) theme is: Canine – “And then there were cats, thought Dog.”

Future themes:
8th May – graphic novel cover – “Love belongs to Desire, and Desire is always cruel”
15th May – pink – as pink as cotton candy – any cover that is pink
22nd May – Sorrow – a cover that makes you feel sad
29th May – Silhouette – an island, a person, anything you like
5th June – Flight – any type of flight – to flee, to fly
12th June – The bodice ripper – exactly as it seems
19th June – Time – time waits for no one
26th June – Windows – windows to the soul?

book blogger hopBook Blogger Hop, which was originally created by Jennifer @Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. It was relaunched on February 15, 2013 by Billy @Coffee-Addicted-Writer . Each week the hop starts on Friday and ends the following Thursday. There is a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to your own blog. April 24th – 30th the question submitted by Flora @ Flora’s Musings…

Question: Do the star ratings a book receives on Goodreads or retail sites affect whether you buy the book or not?

My answer: I don’t really know, the book has to have over 3 star rating for me to consider buying the book, but at the end it will depend on the author, synopsis and negative reviews. Yup, I always read negative reviews to see whether the points that someone was unhappy about actually bother me or not. So let’s say that star rating partly affect my decision.

Thank you for visiting! Please let me know in comments, which one of these seven covers is your favourite. Have you read any book witting by Laura Thalassa and what were your thoughts? Do star ratings affect your book purchasing decision?

And check out the beginning and lines from 56% mark in the book of Pestilence (The Four Horsemen #1) by Laura Thalassa on my today’s Friday Memes post > here.

Happy reading,
Lady of Bookland
