My Thoughts

Oh, the beginning of this book just chilled my blood and stole my breath away. It was kind of a bit hard to wrap up my mind around on what just happened in the first lines in the book. It was dark. And I was fine with all the darkness of this story, except one scene was unforgivable, also heroine’s reaction and emotions didn’t exactly feel believable concerning this scene.

He wanted to take her innocence and warp it until she had as many demons as he did. He’d share his own until she found hers.

The story was told in two person POV – Megara and Henrik. I understand that he is an anti-hero that we are supposed to hate to love, but it was really hard for me to forgive him. However, he did manage to grow on me at the end, but still I didn’t completely forgive him.

“I don’t want sweet from you Henrik. It’s not you.”

He chuckled. “Insulting me or complimenting me, I’m not sure.” He grabbed a fistful of her hair and pulled her head back. “It doesn’t matter. The penalty’s the same for both.”

This story had my favourite tropes of hate-to-love and arranged marriage. Also there was some connection to green mythology but in contemporary setting intertwined with dark romance. All four of these things made the story more intriguing and entertaining for me with a bit of intense reading experience, but at the same time something was missing. Sometimes the story and characters were lacking depth and even though there were many different emotions portrayed, at times they were just not strong, intense or realistic enough to actually connect and feel them.

“This is were you belong now, Megara.” (..)

“In your bed?” (..)

“In my bed or out of it, you belong with me, Megara.”

The last part of the book was very emotional, which I appreciated, but at the same time I just wanted a bit more from the ending and it also felt a tiny bit rushed.

“My strength is already with you, Megara. You are my strength.”

So I loved the beginning and enjoyed the last emotionally charged part of the book. There were some steamy, some intense, some sweetish and some very dark moments in this story that I liked. The romance was dark and twisted, the heroine was strong and the hero was a little bit too much for me, even he managed to grow on me, I still completely didn’t forgive him. I was entertained, however, for the most part I was missing more depth, emotional intensity and connection with the story and main characters.
