Some sins were meant to remain secrets forever. But what I had yet to figure out was if having Ace in my life was a blessing…or a curse.

Scars & Sins-Final-NewTitle: Scars & Sins

Author: Melanie Munton

Series: Brooklyn Brothers #2

Publication Date: March 31st 2020

Genre: Romantic Suspense, Contemporary/Erotic Romance

Cover Designer: L.J. Anderson at Mayhem Cover Creations

Synopsis:

We are the Rossetti’s.

The exiled “sixth” family of the New York mafia. We’re the good guys.

People don’t fear us…much. They respect us.

The five of us? We’re the Brooklyn Brothers.

And we protect what’s ours.

You know when you have a little sister and she has that one friend that always follows you around like a puppy? For me, that was Roxanna “Roxy” D’Angelo. That was years ago, back when our fathers didn’t hate each other. Then they became enemies and she went off to boarding school in Connecticut.

Now, she’s back…and looking nothing like the shy girl I remember.

Cavorting with anyone from the five families is strictly forbidden to someone like me. So, I can’t figure out why I keep finding myself in situations with Roxy that could bring the force of the entire mafia syndicate down on our heads. Even if those situations are the wildest, most intoxicating experiences of my life.

But with the Sicilians in town and out for blood, times have never been more dangerous. If they find out about our relationship, they won’t hesitate to remove both of us from the equation so they can restore order.

We’re not Romeo and Juliet. They both died. And I refuse to let anything happen to Roxy. I have to protect her. From my family. From hers.

I hope she won’t hate me for what I have to do.

Because it might just kill her before any bullet can.

About the Author

MelanieMelanie grew up in a small town in rural Missouri. After marrying her husband, she decided she wanted to try coastal life because why not? A few months later, they moved to North Carolina where she discovered her passion for writing, and they never looked back. They are now enjoying life with their beautiful daughter in Savannah, GA and loving every minute with their little Georgia peach.

Melanie’s other passion is traveling and seeing the world. With anthropology degrees under their belts, she and her husband have made it their goal in life to see as many archaeological sites around the world as possible.

She has a horrible food addiction to pasta and candy (not together…ew). And she gets sad when her wine rack is empty.

At the end of the day, she is a true romantic at heart. She loves writing the cheesy and corny of romantic comedies, and the sassy and sexy of suspense. She aims to make her readers swoon, laugh out loud, maybe sweat a little, and above all, fall in love.

My Thoughts

Unfortunately, a love like that doesn’t just vanish after the heart takes a beating. In the end, no matter how bruised and battered it may have become, my heart still worked. And as much as it angered me to admit, it still beat for him.

I was expecting this story to be a bit more exciting and captivating, with a bit more angst and banter, and a bit darker, however, there was still some danger, suspense and action that made my heart anxious, it was steamy and there was a good chemistry between Ace and Roxy. I felt heart-break and pain, but also satisfaction for the HEA that I rooted for as I very much liked seeing them together.

Love could be a blessing or a disease. It could heal or it could wound. It could save you, redeem you, free you. But what I learned that day… Was that it could also kill you.

The book was written in dual POV – Roxy and Ace (Alessandro – OK, so I love his full name). This was a second book in the series, but it can be read as a standalone. The first book was Ace’s brother’s Cris’s story, so this book had a couple spoilers for it. But you don’t have to read the first book to understand and enjoy this one.

Keeping Roxy safe would be my highest priority because I didn’t trust anyone else to do the job right.

I very much liked Ace and his family, the brothers, sister and parents. They had a playful and close sibling dynamic and such loyalty to each other that I respected and appreciated it a lot. I didn’t fall in love with Ace, but that’s not unusual for me, because that that tends to happen, however, he and his family were the best part of this book.

“Don’t toy with me, Ace. I’m not one of your gadgets. Thing’s aren’t the way they used to be.”

I kind of liked Roxy well enough just there were moments were she annoyed me. And some of her actions were frustrating and in my opinion also mean and unnecessary. If not for her I may have liked the book more than I actually did, however, I still enjoyed the story as it was an entertaining and emotional read.

“Convince me that you want me to stay away from you.”

“How can I convince you if I can’t convince myself?”

Oh, and that epilogue just made me crave the next book a lot. I believe that Nico’s story will be very exciting, dangerous and entertaining, so I can’t wait.

“Oh, I’ll be silent all right,” I spat. “Don’t worry. While you’re treating the devil to a nice steak dinner. I’ll sit quietly like a good little girl. And when he steals your soul right out from under you, I won’t say a damn word.”
