BOOK REVIEW: Cruel Obsession by J.L. Beck and C. Hallman

Dear book-lovers,

I guess, the best thing at the moment, when most of us are worried and scared for our loved ones, ourselves and the rest of the world, is to escape reality and loose ourselves in the fictional world of books for a little while, every single day. Books can help you forget, relax, cope with our situation a tiny bit better, and maybe even survive without loosing your mind, heart, hope or dreams. So all I can do for now is to give you book reviews, recommendations and other bookish posts, so maybe you could find your next book to get yourself lost in for a couple of hours.

I recently read a dark mafia romance by one of my favourite author duos – Cruel Obsession (The Obsession Duet #1) by J.L. Beck and C. Hallman, and I loved it. So I decided to share my review for this enthralling book with you guys 🙂

We were only kids when I made the vow to protect her.

First from the monsters hiding under the bed and then the ones roaming the world freely.

My obsession with Dove wasn’t normal, it toed the line on psychotic but my love for her overshadowed that. I’d killed, destroyed and hurt those that had done her wrong. I’d watched her for years wanting to claim her but refusing too. I was both her guardian angel and the demon lurking in the shadows.

She was mine, even though she didn’t know it yet.

I had planned to let her live her life, while I watched from afar.

Until one night, everything changed, and I was forced to kidnap her.

She doesn’t remember me.
She begs me to let her go.
But I can’t. I won’t.

There are things she doesn’t know. Secrets I cannot tell her but one thing is clear.
I’ll die before I ever let her slip through my fingers.

**This book is not suitable for all readers due to violence, sexual content, and mature themes.**

“I’ll die before you’re ever free of me.”

I loved this dark and twisted tale of obsession and love.

We were made for each other. We’re two different sides of fractured soul.

There was suspense, steamy scenes, sparks flying and darkness pouring out of those pages or the screen in my case 🙂 Cruel Obsession was emotionally charged book. I felt safe and in danger at the same time. There was even a moment when I was actually afraid while being safe in my living room, snuggled up in a blanket on my sofa.

“Lies. You taste like lies.” His eyes flash with primal hunger. “Next time, don’t provoke me. I told you I wouldn’t hurt you, but I’m not a saint. Every man has his limits…”

Zane was a monster, a ruthless killer, and an obsessive and possessive stalker, however, there was a softer and sweeter side to him as well. But I mean it, when I say he was obsessed, really obsessed, like bordering on the line of competently crazy and psychotic. But he still managed to claw his way into my heart.

No matter what I do, no matter how many people I kill, she will always be mine. The devil already owns too much of my soul for me to allow myself to let her go.

Dove was a bit broken but at the same time she had a fight and strength in her, which I admired.

I might feel safe in his arms, but he’s not William. He’s not going to save me. He’s going to trap me and keep me forever.

But that ending…I need the second book ASAP!!! (Warning a cliffhanger at the end, but second book is out now, so no worries 😉)

She is my entire fucking world. I exist because of her. If anything were to happen to her… every muscle in my body tightens, and for one brief moment, darkness overtakes me. No. I won’t let anything happen to her. I’ll kill them all, every single one of them.

The romance was sweet and a bit twisted in unhealthy way, but still warm and beautifully raw. She was in danger, so he kidnapped her, which means that this love story has a vibe of hate-to-love romance. Also both of them kept a secret from each other but they shouldn’t have done it because that’s what brought them to the ending that made my heart stop beating in my chest and breath caught in my lungs.

“You are everything, Dove. Everything. You have no idea the things I’ve done for you. The blood that’s covered my hands. The darkness I’ve endured, but that’s okay because now you’re mine. You’re here, and you’re mine, and it was all worth it in the end.”

Oh, and Rossi family was mentioned, I just always get so, so happy when there is a hint of my favourite mafia family. I hope that in the next book at least one of them will make an appearance on the page 🥰

J.L. Beck and C. Hallman’s books are addictive, dark and steamy hot. Their heroes are more like anti-heroes whom you love to hate. Their heroines are usually naive virgins, but you just have to accept it because at the end they grow into strong and confident women. And this book was not an exception, it was their usual trademark book that I loved.
