Bookish memes on Friday – February 22, 2019 (features ‘The Risk’ by Elle Kennedy)

Dear book-lovers,

It’s Friday and time for a Friday memes of Book Beginnings on Fridays hosted @ Rose City ReaderFirst Lines Fridays @ Wandering Words, The Friday 56 hosted @Freda’s Voice. So the idea for this post is to share with you a few first lines from a book that I have decided to feature today, and to share a snippet from page 56 or in case of eBook a sneak peek 56% into the book. Let’s not keep you waiting and look at today’s featured book.

Finally, after so long wait, The Risk (Briar U #2) by Elle Kennedy is here 🙂 I’m doing here happy dance 🙂 So of course, today I’m featuring this sexy, funny and all around awesome NA contemporary sports romance.

The first lines of the book

Chapter 1 – Brenna

My date is late. Now, I’m not a total bitch. Usually I’ii give guys a five-minute widow. I can forgive five minutes of tardiness.

I guess her date probably is not going to go that well, but who knows? 😉

Chapter 23 – Jake

I can’t force Brenna to go out with me again, but at least I can let her know that she’s still on my mind.

ME: Hey, Hottie. Me again. Feel free to keep avoiding me, but just know that I’m here if you change your mind.

I actually like this ice-hockey player with all his flaws, so I hope Brenna will change her mind here, I’m sure she will 🙂 I’m not sure what happened here as at this very moment I’m 32% in the book, but so far I love these two guys. They just have such a chemistry and fun interactions that I need to get back to this book ASAP 🙂

the riskTitle: The Risk

Spin-off Series of: Off-Campus

*Note: Even this is a second book in a series, it can be read as a standalone, as all the books in Off-Campus series, however, I would advice to read all four Off-Campus books and the first book from this series, just to have better feeling for the characters in this book. Also all of the books are a great entertainment and very enjoyable reads.

Synopsis:

A sexy standalone novel from New York Times and international bestselling author Elle Kennedy. THE RISK takes you back to the world of hot hockey players, feisty heroines, bro banter, and steamy scenes…

Everyone says I’m a bad girl. They’re only partly right—I don’t let fear rule me, and I certainly don’t care what people think. But I draw the line at sleeping with the enemy. As the daughter of Briar’s head hockey coach, I’d be vilified if I hooked up with a player from a rival team.

And that’s who Jake Connelly is. Harvard’s star forward is arrogant, annoying, and too attractive for his own good. But fate is cruel—I require his help to secure a much-coveted internship, and the sexy jerk isn’t making it easy for me.

I need Connelly to be my fake boyfriend.

For every fake date…he wants a real one.

Which means this bad girl is in big trouble. Nothing good can come from sneaking around with Jake Connelly. My father would kill me, my friends will revolt, and my post-college career is on the line. But while it’s getting harder and harder to resist Jake’s oozing sex appeal and cocky grin, I refuse to fall for him.

That’s the one risk I’m not willing to take.
