Welcome to WWW Wednesday! This meme is hosted by Taking on a World of Words. The idea of this meme is to answer three W questions, which are:
What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?
I’m in quite unusual situation as I have four books that I’m currently reading but in reality at the moment I’m not actually reading any of them. Some of these books have been in currently reading state for three to two weeks. However, I’m planning to finish them all by the end of the month. I’m just having a hard time to get into most of the books because I still can’t get over my book hangover from Dance of Thieves (Dance of Thieves, #1) by Mary E. Pearson, no matter the fact that it’s been almost a month since then, and I can’t believe that I have to wait like year for the next book. I’ll go and slay a zombie to get now the second book. Just please someone give it to me!!! The other reason is that around the same time I read the sneak peek from The Darkest Star (Origin, #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout. And now I just can’t wait to get my hands on that treat of a book.
But let’s just get to the point and see the books that I should be currently reading. Driven to Date (Better Date than Never, #7) by Susan Hatler is on this list for the longest time. I haven’t read the first six books in this series as they are like standalones in my understanding. So I got this book for free on Amazon. I must admit that even thou the synopsis sounded interesting, the book is not. I got bored with it and that’s the reason that I put it aside after reaching about 60%. Another book that I got for free on Amazon was Defy the Stars (My Alien Romance, #1) by Magan Vernon, which was published before by the name of How to Date an Alien (My Alien Romance, #1). I started reading this book because of the sneak peek of The Darkest Star that I mentioned above, as it made me want some alien romance full of angst and steam, but I just couldn’t get into it because obviously it’s nothing like Jennifer L. Armentrout’s books.
Next two books I have put a side for a short time only because I didn’t feel in the mood for them, however, I believe that they have a good potential. Fawkes by Nadine Brandes had an intriguing beginning and I hope to get into the mood for it soon 🙂 With a little bit slower beginning started The Queen’s Rising (The Queen’s Rising #1) by Rebecca Ross but I can’t say much about this book because I have read only 36 pages for now.
Last week I read five books but this week I finished reading one book that I had put a side for almost three weeks because I hated it, so this week I have read only half a book. At the beginning of last week I read Perfect Chemistry series by by Simone Elkeles. They were an enjoyable entertainment that I really needed. Just perfect guilty-pleasure books with cute high school romances, bad boys and just a bit of heart ache and drama. The first book was my favourite in the series. I gave 4 stars for the first two books and for the last one 3 stars. I actually read all three of them just in two day time.
Close to the end of the last week I decided to give one more chance to Holly Black as I disliked The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by her about vampires. But, oh my, oh my, am I glad or am I glad that I gave her a chance? So I wanted to read The Cruel Prince but first I had to read The Darkest Part of the Forest because there are a few links from this book to The Cruel Prince. I actually liked The Darkest Part of the Forest, even at some points it got a bit slow and boring for me. I liked the main characters, but sadly I couldn’t connect with them and, therefore, didn’t care enough. But the story had some good twists and turns, hence, generally I enjoyed reading this book, and gave it 3 stars. The next day I got to The Cruel Prince (The Folk of the Air #1) by Holly Black and fell in love with the story, the world and Cardan. I read it in one go, so I went to sleep only around 4 or 5 o’clock in the morning. This book is joining my top 5 books of this year. Of course I gave it 5 stars. And now I can’t wait for the second book, and after reading The Cruel Prince I couldn’t get in the mood for anything else, so I kind of got stuck a bit. That’s why I chose simply to finish a book that I anyways didn’t like, not to decrease the enjoyment of reading a good book.
Now let’s get to the hardest part of this post. I have never given a book 1 star rating but this book is the one that I just couldn’t give more than that. Because I Love You by Amy Brent is a book that I actually hated a lot. It was frustrating to read, as I hated both MCs because they were disrespectful and horrible human beings. The thing that I hated the most was that there was shaming of skinny women and models, which is so wrong because no book should shame people for their physical appearance. It was also very boring, with unnecessary drama and just way too much sex scenes, like half of the book was just badly written sex scenes, which is not something that I enjoy. I expected a contemporary romance and not pornography, so this book was a huge disappointment and a 1 star read. I won’t even add the cover just because I don’t want to encourage people to read it.
I’m in such a mood that I don’t know what I’m going to read next but there are many books on my Autumn’s TBR list. Mostly books that have been published this year, so I’ll be able to vote in the Goodreads’ Choice Awards in November 🙂 However, I will try to finish reading as soon as possible the books on my currently reading list. So, here are a few cover pictures of books that I would love to get to soon.
