Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted at Wishful Endings, to spotlight and discuss the books we’re excited about that we have yet to read. Generally they’re books that have yet to be released. It’s based on Waiting on Wednesday, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.
This week I’m bringing spot-light to a Middle Grade fantasy book with ghost hunting that has been written by one of my favourite authors – Victoria Schwab (also known as V.E. Schwab). I have read only her Young Adult books, however, I’m planning to read her Middle Grade titles as well, starting with this one – City of Ghosts.
Expected publication is August 28th 2018 and here is the synopsis from Goodreads:
Cassidy Blake’s parents are The Inspectres, a (somewhat inept) ghost-hunting team. But Cass herself can REALLY see ghosts. In fact, her best friend, Jacob, just happens to be one.
When The Inspectres head to ultra-haunted Edinburgh, Scotland, for their new TV show, Cass—and Jacob—come along. In Scotland, Cass is surrounded by ghosts, not all of them friendly. Then she meets Lara, a girl who can also see the dead. But Lara tells Cassidy that as an In-betweener, their job is to send ghosts permanently beyond the Veil. Cass isn’t sure about her new mission, but she does know the sinister Red Raven haunting the city doesn’t belong in her world. Cassidy’s powers will draw her into an epic fight that stretches through the worlds of the living and the dead, in order to save herself.
This is the US cover, however, I’m going to wait till 6th of September to get the UK paperback, which also has a cute cover. I just have to share this cover as well because it’s just so cool 😉 So, I haven’t read any books about ghosts, I think. I must admit a secret here… I’m a bit afraid of ghosts because I do believe that they could exist in our world as I actually know three people who have seen one or two ghosts. I know that skeptics will stay skeptics, however, I have an at most respect towards the people who told me that, hence, I believe them. I believe that this book should be fun and exciting read, but also, a bit dark and intense at the same time, at least I expect that from this story and author. I just adore Victoria’s writing style with its beauty and darkness even when she breaks my heart. But also I hope that she won’t shatter my world as this is an MG book. Oh, I love cats, and I hope to see one in the book as well, as both of the covers have a black cat on them 🙂
Which book can’t you wait to read or to be released? Are you looking forward to read City of Ghosts? Also, you can share your Can’t Wait Wednesday post’s link in comments 🙂
